MARPA is partnering with Oppland to host a PMA Parts Management Seminar in Guangzhou, China on March 21-22. In addition to the FAA-PMA companies that are attending, Oppland has a significant list of Chinese air carriers and MROs that they expect to attend, so this should be a productive opportunity for FAA-PMA companies to make connections with Chinese customers. Clicking through the link above will get you additional information on our meeting.
Government involvement in these efforts is always important so MARPA has invited the CAAC and the FAA to participate in the meeting. We are also working closely with the US Commerce Department (including the International Trade Administration) on these efforts, and they have brought two additional opportunities to our attention. The first is a briefing on the state of the civil aviation market in China. The second is an MRO meeting in the same city as the Oppland-MARPA meeting, that may be a convenient opportunity to get ‘more bang for your buck’ when traveling to Guangzhou..
First, on January 30, 2024, the Commerce Department will host a meeting to discuss the Chinese civil aviation market. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about civil aviation opportunities in China. Here is their official write-up:
China is the second-largest aviation market in the world and has the fastest growth rate over the past decade. Both Boeing and Airbus recently released similar forecasts that China will become the world’s largest aviation market in the next 20 years. China’s domestic commercial aviation sector continues to recover from the pandemic and in 2022 U.S. companies exported $5.5 billion worth of aircraft, spacecraft and parts (commodity Group: 88) to China. This briefing is expected to give American Aerospace companies an update on the Chinese civil aviation industry and what business opportunities there may be for U.S. companies.
The Commerce Department plans to have speakers from the US Embassy in China, Aviation Week Network, Textron, and the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security. There is a $25 fee for registration, and the meeting starts at 5:00 pm pacific time // 8:00 pm eastern time. You will need to establish a account with the International Trade Administration.
Second, on March 19-21 is the MRO Summit China (note that this overlaps with our March 21-22 meeting). This meeting is in Guangzhou, too, so it would be convenient for MARPA members attending our meeting to attend the MRO Summit as well. The will be hosting a service booth and provifing “gold key” services to introduce US businesses to Chinese customers. They can host your information at their booth as part of the trade show for as little as $400. There is more information about this available on the International Trade Administration’s web page (as stated above, you will need to create an account with ITA to access the information). You can also contact Sadie HU (sadie.hu@trade.gov) or Ida PENG (aiqun.peng@trade.gov) from the US Commercial Service for more information.
