Several MARPA members have reported that a search filter that they used on the FAA DRS website for researching Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and Advisory Circulars (ACs) is missing, making it impossible for them to do their research for documents related to PMAs or repairs. The filter box that is currently missing is called “Keyword Search”. This filter allowed users to search by inputting words or part numbers.
We reached out to the Dynamic Regulatory Program Manager about the issue and the now missing search field. We learned that there was an issue with the Search User Interface that was affecting DRS, caused by the “Keyword Search” field. The FAA programs had to temporarily remove the field and hope to have it loaded back in mid-March.
Users do not need to wait until the “Keyword Search” field is put back on the system to find the information they are looking for. There is an alternate way to search within DRS. The “Advanced Search” at the bottom of the Search Current Documents field will help narrow search results and provide a way to perform keyword searches.
From the main page of www.drs.faa.gov you will see “Search Current Documents”, in the lower right corner in small light blue letters, click on “Advanced Search”. This will open up more filter boxes to refine search results. The “Document Type” drop down box will let you select many different document types, for example “AD Final Rules”, “Advisory Circulars (A/C), or Parts Manufacturer Approvals (PMA).
If for example, you wanted to find an AD that was related to Fan Cowl part number 740-4000-503, you would select under “Document Type” AD Final Rules. In the search box called “All of these words”, type 740-4000-503, and then click on the dark blue “Search” button. The search results should return one document number: 2017-13-10.
Hopefully this alternate way of performing searches in DRS will be useful to you. We look forward to seeing everyone at the MARPA EMEA Conference in London, UK May 24th & 25th.
