FAA PMA Workshop Answers Questions on Endurance, Vibration and Materials

The Modification and Replacement Parts Association (MARPA) is proud to announce that the FAA’s Mark Bouyer will present a special workshop on endurance, vibration and materials at the 2010 MARPA Conference. Bouyer manages PMA policy questions for the FAA’s Engine Directorate. His presentation will answer many of the questions that the industry has raised about how to show compliance with FAA airworthiness standards related to endurance, vibration and materials. ACPC Keynote Predicts that Aviation is Bouncing Back

This year’s Air Carrier Purchasing Conference (ACPC) announced that they were hosting 1093 suppliers and 234 airline representatives. The keynote speaker was Gary Shultheis, DHL’s Senior Vice President Airfreight Americas. Shultheis examined the trends and events of the last decade and concluded that although events have conspired ti adversely affect the air transport industry, the industry is nonetheless poised to bounce back. PMA Conference Examines Safety Management Mechanisms

The 2010 MARPA Conference will feature a special workshop on practical implementation of Safety Management, as well as general session presentations on Safety Management Systems (SMS). This year’s MARPA Conference will feature several speakers addressing SMS concepts and implementation mechanisms. As a special bonus, though, John Hunter (Chairman of the MARPA Continued Operational Safety (COS) Committee) will present a workshop that will analyze case studies of how companies have used the MARPA COS standard to establish a SMS with positive safety benefits. Air Carriers Withdraw from Voluntary Safety Programs, Just as Congress Seeks to Mandate Them

Just as Comair’s mechanics have chosen to withdraw from the FAA’s ASAP, Congress has passed a law that will require FAA to make a rule requiring air-carrier participation in programs like ASAP. This may pose some implementation challenges as well as some labor-management issues. The upcoming SMS rule may provide an opportunity to improve this system. Click through for the full article. Congress Passes Safety Management Law

The President signed into law the Airline Safety and Federal Aviation Administration Extension Act of 2010 on August 1. One of the provisions of this new law is a requirement that the FAA publish a notice of proposed rulemaking within 90 days that would impose a requirement for Safety Management Systems (SMS) on air carriers.
