Congress extends FAA funding through March 31, 2009

The President has signed into law the bill reauthorizing the FAA through March 31, 2009.  This is considered to be yet another Continuing Resolution for the FAA,. which continues the FAA’s fundings at expected levels but does nothing to update the FAA’s underlying funding mechanisms.

The bill can be found through the the House Transportation Committee:

as well as through the Government Printing Office:

A summary of the bill’s provisions can be found online at http://transportation.house.gov/Media/File/Aviation/HR%206984%20summary%20of%20provisions.pdf

The Reauthorization also DOES NOT include the provision that would have required FAA personnel to perform additional audits of overseas repair stations.  The Administration has opposed this provision in the STATEMENT OF ADMINISTRATION POLICY on H.R. 2881at 2-3 (April 29, 2008).  This is good, because it means that the FAA is better able to focus its staff on the safety issues that the Administrator feels deserve the most attention.
