MARPA is pleased to announce the release of the MARPA 1100 Standard. This standard provides guidance in assembling a PMA application for a non-safety sensitive (NSS) aircraft part. MARPA has been working with the FAA to help develop corollary FAA guidance to explain to FAA employees the public safety benefits of this program, and to advise the FAA on how to handle applications that are properly prepared under the MARPA 1100 standard. The FAA has made a change to the rules concerning vibration testing (14 C.F.R. § 33.83). The change would require full engine testing of engine parts that are subject to vibration in the aircraft. Continue reading

The FAA issued a new advisory circular (AC) on flammability testing for aircraft cabin interiors, on June 4, 2012. The new AC is entitled Flammability Testing of Aircraft Cabin Interior Panels After Alterations and it is identified as Advisory Circular 20-178. Continue reading
Today, the FAA published a proposed amendment to the repair station rules, with a particular focus on a change in the repair stations ratings system. This proposal could have the unintended effect of decreasing the repair stations that are legally permitted to repair a PMA part, even though they are technically qualified. Continue reading
