MARPA has filed comments in response to the Japanese proposed rule on Safety Management Systems (SMS).
Several of MARPA’s members currently export aircraft components to Japanese airlines. MARPA members are committed to supporting Japanese airlines with safe aircraft components. Thus, it is important to the MARPA community that Japanese SMS rules be consistent with U.S. SMS rules in order to facilitate reciprocal acceptance between the two nations.
The best way to assure such similarity is through conformance to the principles of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) SMS proposal
In general, MARPA was pleased with the direction being taken by the Japanese rule. MARPA’s comments suggest areas where the proposed rule can be improved to better match the proposal offered by ICAO.
