MARPA has filed comments in response to the Japanese proposed rule on Safety Management Systems (SMS). In general, MARPA was pleased with the direction being taken by the Japanese rule. MARPA’s comments suggest areas where the proposed rule can be improved to better match the proposal offered by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). On February 23, the FAA’s rulemaking committee for Safety Management Systems (SMS) held its first meeting. The group will assisting the FAA in developing the safety protocols of the future, which are expected to complement the NextGen system being developed by the Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO).
