With the growth in the business jet market into Russia, Russia is a natural target for PMA manufacturers supporting business jets. In doing business with Russian customers, though it is important to bear in mind their view of the United States.
A theory that the United States will soon break apart – in much the same way that the USSR broke into its constituent nations – is gaining in popularity among some academics in Russia.
The theory is discussed in some depth on the Wall Street Journal’s website:

The article is entitled, “As if Things Weren’t Bad Enough, Russian Professor Predicts End of U.S.” While it is easy to laugh off as preposterous the notion that Alaska (and its oil reserves) will escheat to the Russians, the article illustrates an important point about the Russian psyche. In their efforts to view themselves as resurgent, some Russions appear to need to see their perceived foes (the US) as ready to suffer a political catastrophe on the same level as the one that they suffered. PMA companies seeking to sell to Russian customers should bear in mind that those customers who believe in the imminent break-up of the United States are more likely to distrust long-term arrangements with US manufacturers.
