The FAA’s David Grizzle announced a new focus on professionalism as an element supporting the NextGen system. Supporting and encouraging pilot professionalism will be an import element of the implementation plan for Safety Management Systems (SMS), which in turn is expected to support the mindset that will support a proper functioning of the NextGen navigation/air traffic management system. On February 23, the FAA’s rulemaking committee for Safety Management Systems (SMS) held its first meeting. The group will assisting the FAA in developing the safety protocols of the future, which are expected to complement the NextGen system being developed by the Joint Planning and Development Office (JPDO).
